Controversy About The Government of Balochistan in Exile

There is a great deal of speculation going around on various Baloch discussion groups about Government of Balochistan (GOB) in Exile. But, from the get go we have been upfront about the fact that the GOB (Exile) is not an official organization. In fact, we are a group of Baloch nationalists scattered around the world who have embarked on a mission to liberate Balochistan by utilizing the power of the Internet. Thus, for the time being, we are a government in cyberspace run by real people.

Prior to launching GOB (Exile), we observed that various Baloch political parties were fragmented. Therefore, instead of aligning our organization with any one of the existing political groups and loose sight of our objective by getting embroiled in local political issues, we decided to publicly declare the formation of the Government of Balochistan in Exile, nominate a King, select a flag, and move forward to internationalize the “Baloch War of Independence” through this blog without wasting any time bickering about non-issues which had plagued other worthwhile efforts in the past .

Furthermore, GOB (Exile) is ideally positioned as a central exchange for known and authentic Baloch nationalist leaders to discuss issues with established sovereign nations. We can provide ambassadorial services, especially to our Baloch commanders who are in the field battling the Pakistani armed forces. With clear understanding and agreement of our leadership in Balochistan, we can negotiate with foreign countries about receiving various forms of support, and any reciprocal support. Respected expatriate Baloch intellectuals like Dr. Wahid Baloch, Dr. Malek Towghi, Ahmar Mustikhan and many more can be assigned tasks to approach their host country’s government on behalf of the GOB (Exile) to discuss various issues concerning Balochistan.

GOB (Exile) has simply “nominated” His Highness, Mir Suleman Dawood Khan as the King of Balochistan (or Khan of Kalat, Khan-e-Azam, Khan-e-Baloch or any other title commonly used by royalty). It is important to understand that His Highness has “not” accepted our offer yet, and he may turn our nomination down and claim no part in our mission by issuing a public disclaimer.

However, we strongly believe that it is now the responsibility of His Highness to prove his loyalty to the Baloch nation. If he accepts our nomination, then we have an important assignment for him, which will serve the Baloch nation and also clear the Ahmadzai family name from being considered collaborators who surrendered Balochistan to Pakistan. This is a challenge from GOB (Exile) to His Highness to step up to the plate and show his courage by honoring the Baloch cause.

His Highness is the only person in the world who can go to the International Court of Justice (judicial organ of the United Nations) and declare the annexation of Balochistan by Pakistan “Null and Void”. He is the heir apparent of Khan of Kalat, Mir Ahmad Yar Khan Baloch, who under duress signed documents to allow Pakistan to colonize Balochistan. To prove his contention, His Highness can, as evidence, present to the Court of Justice the book: “Inside Baluchistan: A political autobiography of His Highness Baiglar Baigi, Khan-e-Azam-XIII Mir Ahmad Yar Khan Baluch, Khan-e-Baluch, ex-ruler of Kalat State”.

Dr. Malek Towghi, an eminent scholar from the US, has made a few wise suggestions, which we have decided to implement at the GOB (Exile). We hope that these changes will clear the confusion about our organization among the Baloch community and unite us to fight our enemies, the governments of Iran and Pakistan.

In agreement with Dr. Towghi that when Balochistan is declared independent, we will support - during the interim period - a caretaker government to establish a constituent assembly that is elected freely and democratically to decide about the constitution, system of government, economic system, foreign policy, laws, etc. We leave it up to the Baloch nation to decide if they want a government that is a combination of monarchy and democratic systems, similar to the one in the United Kingdom. GOB (Exile) is currently not in a position to decide all these complicated issues without a consensus of the Baloch people, nor are we interested in getting bogged down in dealing with micro-political matters at this juncture. Let us try to win the war first and then worry about how to rule Balochistan; let us not put the cart in front of the horse. But, we will continue to strive and promote our ideals of a “democratic, liberal and secular” system of government for Balochistan.

The GOB (Exile) does not receive any financial, moral, or any other type of support from the Government of Israel nor from any Jewish groups. We are composed of indigenous Baloch people belonging to various beliefs and faiths who chose to participate in our mission for the Baloch cause. To avoid incarceration, we nominated Israel to be a temporary site from where to launch this blog. It is the closest country to Balochistan that does not have any diplomatic relations nor extradition treaties with both Iran and Pakistan. We learned our lesson when the UAE authorities arrested Nawabzada Gazzain Marri to be soon deported to Pakistan to face terrorism charges.

Bosnia, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and numerous other Muslim countries around the globe have established diplomatic relations with the State of Israel. If GOB (Exile) is conducive to entertaining the idea of forming cordial relations with Afghanistan, India, Israel, and the United States to fight the Iranian and Pakistani armed forces, it should not alarm any Baloch who fears the wrath of other Islamic countries. The fact is that there is not a single intolerant Muslim country that has annihilated another Muslim country from establishing diplomatic relations with Israel. So, why should anything change if Balochistan develops friendly ties with Israel?

However, since the Baloch are a Semitic tribe, it will be beneficial to research our roots and determine which tribe of Israel did we originate from. Perhaps by conducting these studies, we might be able to establish relationships with various apolitical Jewish groups to promote future research into Baloch heritage. To pursue this goal, we at GOB (Exile) are in the process of organizing a World Baloch Jewish Alliance (WBJA) as a platform from where we will seek Baloch and Jewish groups that are interested in learning about each other’s culture, people and heritage.

Since the Government of Balochistan in Exile was launched, there has been speculation that because our leadership is unknown, we must be in cahoots with the Iranian and/or Pakistani intelligence agencies. But, the reality is that we have joined our Baloch people to fight in the “Baloch War of Independence” using 21st century weapons like the Internet. Over time, we will prove to the skeptics through our actions that we are sincere in our quest to liberate Balochistan.

To avoid getting ourselves entangled in local politics, we formed the GOB (Exile) and nominated a King so we can quickly move forward and present to the world a true picture of what was happening in Balochistan. Our work on this blog has produced positive results internationally, but it raised major doubts about our credibility among some concerned Baloch intellectuals. Little did we realize that by nominating His Highness, Mir Suleman Dawood Khan, as the King of Balochistan, would be like opening a Pandora’s box. So, we have clarified our position that we support “democracy, liberalism and secularism”, and once we liberate Balochistan, then it is up to the Baloch nation to vote for the type of government they desire.

Many Baloch feared that because GOB (Exile) is associating with Israel, it would release the wrath of the Muslim fundamentalist on the Baloch. We clarified that neither the Government of Israel nor any Jewish groups were supporting the Baloch cause. It is simply a defensive strategy to nominate Israel as a temporary place to start our blog since Israel does not have any diplomatic relations with neither Iran nor Pakistan, and thus, there are no extradition treaties to worry about.

Finally, we suggested that we would like to promote future research into Baloch historical studies in determining our people’s Semitic roots. By forming the World Baloch Jewish Alliance, we will seek those Baloch and Jewish groups that might be interested in knowing more about each other’s culture, people and heritage.

It adresses all the question that skeptics have about GOB but if some one still continue in stubburness and make it a ego problem and wants to be blind, let him be. No one can help these kind of stubburn people who want to insists on with their ego and stubburness over the logic and facts. Thank you Brather Azaad Jan Baloch for this article. Great job. We are very proud of you.

  • Did you say the Baloch enclave bit into Afghanistan as well?

By Blogger hamesha:, at Saturday, May 06, 2006

  • Dear Hamesha,

The Farah and Nimruz provinces of Afghanistan are predominantly Baloch areas. However, due to friendly relations with Afghanistan, we would like to negotiate with the Afghan government to exchange Baloch areas in Afghanistan with Pashtun dominated areas within Balochistan prior to demarking our borders.

The Baloch nation will always be thankful to the Afghan government when they gave refuge to our Baloch leader, Nawab Khair Bux Marri, his family and thousands of Baloch tribesmen.

With the dissolution of present day Pakistan, the North West Frontier region will return to Afghanistan. Hence, it is in Afghanistan’s interest to help the Baloch freedom fighters to liberate Balochistan.

  • The idea of Government of Balochistan (GoB) in exile with its offices in Israel does not have the rationale to win hearts and minds of Baloch populace. Forming GoB in exile is a good idea but there are two major factors for any successful government in exile. First, it should be a true representative of Baloch nation, which can only be possible with the consensus of major Baloch leadership and Baloch nation. Otherwise it can cause further damage to our unity. The 2nd major factor is the selection of site to form government in exile.

First of all, choosing Israel as a site for government in exile will provide Pakistan an opportunity to declare a Jihad against the Baloch, the ‘Jews’ of Pakistan. Due to this negative propaganda, Islamic militants will invade Balochistan to crush the secular nationalist movement. In addition to this danger, it will also destroy our diplomatic efforts in Arab and Islamic world. Yes I agree that Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and other Islamic countries have diplomatic relationships with Israel but those are independent countries and we are still struggling for our independency.

Finally, when a government in exile is found in any country then directly or indirectly the host country will patronize that movement. Which means you will be receiving some political feedings from that country. In modern history, Israel and Pakistan are the only two countries in the world which were found on the basis of religion, by secular leadership, and later hijacked by religious elements. Armies of the both countries are very much active in suppressing indigenous movements of independency and involved in major human rights violations. How can we leave our fate in such hands which are tainted with the blood of innocent people?

In my view, we should not give any opportunity to our enemy to damage our national cause in anyway. Not only myself but other Baloch nationalists think Europe is the best place to declare and form our government in exile. One can not compare UAE with Europe, there is no political freedom in UAE therefore they are handing over our leaders to Pakistan. Furthermore, we all know that, many Baloch leaders and intellectuals have been granted political asylum in various European countries. There are lots of benefits if we form our government in Europe. First of all, Pakistan army will not get any chance to pollute our national struggle. Secondly, we will be very close to the world political stage and this will help us a lot to establish our diplomatic channels.

Thus, the timing and place to declare our government in exile should be with consensus of our major leadership, our brave freedom fighters in the mountains, our downtrodden masses and the Baloch diaspora.

Whether it is another conspiracy hatched by the ISI or an over enthusiastic action of a mentally challenged person; in any case, representing saner elements in the national movement, I refuse to accept this GoB in Israel as representative of the Baloch cause.

  • Dear Mir Bibker Baloch,

You have mentioned two good points:

    1. The Government of Balochistan (GOB) in Exile should be a true representative of Baloch nation, which can only be possible with the consensus of major Baloch leadership and Baloch nation; and

    2. The site to form government in exile should not be Israel.

By the way, it’s quite insulting to any Baloch to be labeled as:

    1. Conspirators of ISI; and
    2. Mentally challenged person.

[Note: I’m not going to hold your derogatory manner against you. After all, you are my brother.]

In a democracy, everyone should have the right to choose. Thus, you are free to refuse to accept GOB in Israel as representative of the Baloch cause. No one is really forcing you or holding a gun to your head to accept us.

However, I will only address the two good points that you have stated:

During the last 58 years of occupation of Balochistan and after the oppression of the Baloch people by Iranian and the Pakistani government, not a single Baloch took a bold step to form the Government of Balochistan in Exile. It is a shame that there are over 15 million Baloch (including you) living in the world that could have formed such a government, but none did until we at GOB (Exile) stuck our head out. Did you know that there are a mere 134,000 (approx.) Tibetan living in the world, and they have a functional government in exile since 1959, only nine years after China occupied Tibet?

GOB (Exile) is just three weeks old, and we have a long and arduous journey to liberate Balochistan. We are not perfect and do no have a fully functional government in place; but we are evolving and it will take time and money for us to emulate a sovereign nation. It is our desire to construct a skeleton of a functioning government to be handed over to the Baloch nation through a consensus of major Baloch leadership. We are just the architects of this GOB (Exile) and not politicians to make a name for ourselves. Our goal is to liberate Balochistan and hand over the GOB (Exile) to the Baloch people, nothing else.

GOB (Exile) is a global phenomenon; it is located everywhere on this planet where there is a bright-eyed Baloch sitting with a computer. Today is the age of technology, and the Internet has empowered us to change our tactics to fight the oppressors of the world. For all that matters, we could be sitting on the moon and managing this Blog. Our physical presence is not of any great importance; it is our cyber-presence that counts.

Since I’m living in Jerusalem, it is convenient for me to operate GOB (Exile) from Israel. But, if you or anyone else who is interested that I move to a more ‘politically neutral’ country, then by all means fund my move and living expenses, and I will pack and go (as long as I can be assured that the country that I will relocate to will not extradite me to Iran of Pakistan on false charges filed by them.)

For your information, Jihad against the Baloch, the ‘Jews’ of Pakistan, is already happening. The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the protector of Islam, are slaughtering non-combatant Baloch men, women and children every day. The Punjabi officers of the Frontier Corps are telling their Pashtun soldiers that the Baloch are infidels and it is Jihad to ‘cleanse’ Pakistan of the menacing Sardar-worshipping Baloch.

The Islamic militants have already invaded Balochistan in the name of Islam on April 15, 1948. The Arab and Islamic World are least concerned about the Baloch people; to date, none of them have made any gestures or given any hope to the Baloch people that they will assist us to liberate Balochistan. So, what if they are offended by our actions.

Mir Nauroze Khan Zehri and his followers were offered amnesty by the Islamists, who took an oath on the Holy Quran, that no harm would come to them if they ended their War of Independence. By submitting their fate to the good intentions of these Islamists, the Baloch lashkar ended their rebellion. History is witness that Mir Nauroze Jaan spent the remainder of his life in prison grieving the death of his beloved sons who were hanged.

The truth is that ever since the Baloch nation embraced Islam, it has brought misery to our people. We are a secular people and should remain that way. Our Balochi roots are more important than anything else. It is not GOB (Exile) that has brought the wrath of the Islamist on the Baloch, but it is people like you who have accepted to live like a salve of the oppressors and are comfortable with being treated like a doormat.

  • Dear Dell Gosh / Mir Azaad Baloch / AM,

I don’t feel the need to indulge in an infantile debate, because I have already cleared everything in my letter to Mir Azaad Baloch. Only few more points to close this topic.

    1. It is not the right time to declare my position in the Baloch national movement.
    2. If you really want to know more about me then instead of ‘sitting in front of your computer’, protecting your fake position in Jerusalem; come to the mountains I will meet you there. It is an open invitation.
    3. Before challenging my position in the Baloch national movement, please explain who gave you the right to form GoB in exile. So far none of the major Baloch political parties have come forth in your support.
    4. You have not ‘shaken up the rulers in Islamabad and Tehran’, only confused the Baloch diaspora in the Middle East, damaging our traditional relations with the Arabs.
    5. We support all those fighting for their independence, whether Baloch or non-Baloch. Freedom is the birth right of all mankind.
    6. Everybody’s opinion matters in democracy.
    7. There is a right time for everything, right now we are not in any position to form GoB in exile, whether in Israel or Europe.
    8. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, you are politically damaging the Baloch cause, ‘sitting in front of your computer’.

I will end my letter with the saying of Dr. Martin Luther King, “In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.”

  • Dear Mir Bibker Baloch,

Thank you for your comments. Below are my answers to your post:

    1. No problem; it’s up to you to decide whenever you feel the desire to declare your position towards the Baloch national movement. Just make sure that it’s not at the end of the Baloch struggle when Balochistan has achieved its independence.

    2. If you are a true Baloch, then stop challenging another Baloch to a duel. At least we are doing something for the “Baloch War of Independence”, even if we are hiding in Jerusalem out of fear of being persecuted. A free Baloch is ten times more effective than a Baloch sitting in Kuli camp.

If you are so fond of fighting in the mountains of Balochistan, we are scared of you; you are certainly a big man wearing a Pakistani armed forces’ uniform.

So, be a man of courage and respond to the calls of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and Nawabzada Balach Marri who are pleading to people like you (who claim to be Baloch) to join their forces to fight the Pakistani armed forces. There is an old saying that “Action Talks, Bull-sh*t Walks”

Nawab Akbar Jaan forewarned the Baloch nation against fellow Baloch like you and Jam Muhammad Yousaf whose conducts are similar to past traitors of the Indian sub-continent like Mir Jaffar and Mir Sadiq.

    3. No one gave us specific instructions to form the GOB in exile; it was the bloodshed of innocent Baloch that guided us to act. Even Nawabzada Balach Marri stated recently that if you are truly concerned about the Baloch cause, then you jump into the Baloch struggle for independence; no one is going to hold your hand and guide you.

At this juncture, it’s not important for us to get permission of any Baloch political parties to join the “Baloch War of Independence”. We are going to “earn” respect among the Baloch people through our actions (not just talk), and then let the Baloch nation decide if we are truly representing Balochistan in exile or not.

To date, none of the major Baloch political parties have recognized the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). But, the whole Baloch nation is proud of BLA activities. If BLA members had gone around to get political approval prior to embarking on their mission, they would still be standing at Manaan Chowk in Quetta smoking beri.

    4. “Rome wasn’t built in a day!” So, in time, GOB (Exile) and the Baloch people will liberate our motherland. When Balochistan is an independent country, then tell us what the rulers in Islamabad and Tehran are doing.

As for the Baloch Diaspora in the Middle East, they are already concerned about their future among the Arabs. The Arabs have arrested a notable Baloch, Nawabzada Gazain Marri, on concocted charges. The Baloch nation is worried sick about our brother Gazain Jaan’s safety while people like you want to appease the Arabs. Please stop reprimanding us and try to use your “traditional relations” with the Arabs and free Gazain Jaan. This is an open challege to you.

    5. Good point stated by you: “We support all those fighting for their independence, whether Baloch or non-Baloch. Freedom is the birth right of all mankind.”

    6. Another good point: “Everybody’s opinion matters in democracy.”

    7. You have stated that it’s not the right time to form the GOB in exile. Please explain to us that after 58 years of slavery and thousands of Baloch deaths, when is the right time to form a GOB in exile? Please step forward and propose the perfect time for the Baloch nation to launch their struggle for freedom. We are clueless about how many Baloch have to die before it’s the perfect time.

    8. For your information, all activities by Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, Sardar Attaullah Mengal, Nawabzada Balach Marri, Sanaullah Baloch, BLA, and numerous other Baloch nationalists are considered “politically damaging to the Baloch cause” by the patriotic Pakistanis. So, as long as our intentions are clear that we want to liberate Balochistan, then we really don’t care what patriotic Pakistanis like yourself have to say.

You have very eloquently exposed your position to the Baloch nation by “sitting in front of your computer” and opposing the efforts of people like Dell Gosh Baloch, GOB (Exile), and other sincere nationalists.

Dr. ML King quoted those words in a civilized country of the United States of America. Today, in that great country, the rights of African Americans and other minorities are protected by laws. Contrary to the African Americans, the Baloch are oppressed by barbarians like the Iranian and Pakistanis. So, should we just let these animals slaughter us, or should we defend ourselves. One who defends is not “guilty of wrongful deeds”. Go tell a Baloch who lost someone in their family to stop from being bitter and not to hate patriotic Pakistanis.

Please remember something very important: No matter how much you hide your true feelings, your deeds will prove if you are sincere to the Baloch struggle for independence or not. To date, you have done an excellent job letting the Baloch nation know where you stand.

  • Dear Friend of Balochistan,

    1. If it were up to me, I would choose the Balochi alphabet to be in Roman script. But, we are a democratic entity and would like the Baloch people to decide what is it that they want as far as the Balochi alphabet is concerned.

    2. A directory of the Baloch people living throughout the world is a good idea, but the logistics of gathering such data is cumbersome. Perhaps we at GOB in Exile could build such a database in the near future using our website as a registration point/booth.

    3. GOB in Exile is establishing offices throughout the world. These establishments will be Baloch cultural centers where the Baloch people could meet each other and discuss Baloch concerns. Also, they could facilitate communication between themselves and other Baloch cultural centers in the world.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Thursday, May 25, 2006

  • Dear Baloch Brother,

Baloch are a secular nation. So, we are Baloch first, and then anything else. However, since we are a Semitic tribe, it really means that our ancestors were Jews. And a Jew from Bethlehem was named Jesus Christ, whose followers are today’s Christians. So, having Christian or Jewish symbols on our Blog should not make any difference.

Unfortunately, Balochistan lost its sovereignty to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Islamic Republic of Iran. Today, the Baloch are slaves of the Persian Muslim and the Punjabi Muslim. Thousands of Baloch have lost their lives because these Muslims labeled them as Sardar-worshipping infidels and murdered them indiscriminately.

The Muslims of Pakistan took an oath on the Holy Koran to not harm Prime Abdul Karim if he were to end his rebellion. When he trusted their words and ended his insurgency, he was arrested and persecuted.

The same Muslims of Pakistan took another oath on the Holy Koran to not harm Mir Nowruz Khan Zehri if he were to end his rebellion. When the 92 years old Baloch elder trusted the words of the Muslims of Pakistan and ended his insurgency, he was arrested and his sons and nephews were hanged, while he spent the rest of his life in jail.

To date, a Hindu India has the courage to voice their concern for the Baloch people. But, not a single Muslim country stepped forward to stop Pakistan from killing non-combatant Baloch men, women and children.

Just because our Baloch from the Zikri faction practice their religion differently, the Muslim world has officially declared them as “kafirs”. By the way, the Zikris make up about 7% of Baloch population. Furthermore, there are millions of Baloch who are Muslims by name only, and don’t practice Islam. According to Islamic principals, such Baloch are considered Munafiqs (hypocrites) and therefore they should be treated as non-Muslims. So, how do you figure that 98% Baloch are Muslims?

As a Baloch, we must consider religion as a personal choice and not be influenced by the teachings of Islam. We must develop religious tolerance and accept diverse beliefs practiced by our people.

You should concern yourself with fighting the “Baloch War of Independence” against the Islamic Republics of Iran and Pakistan instead of worrying about the Christian and Jewish symbols.

The Balochi culture has always been secular, and the Baloch people don’t have any problems by not aligning itself to Islam, the major religion of the region.
