Balochistan: Polarization of Nationalist and Loyalist Baloch

KALAT, Balochistan – On June 6th, 2006, during a political speech at Meezaan Chowk in Quetta, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, an ethnic Pashtun politician, called upon the Baloch people and said, “Any Baloch who does not support His Greatnesses Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti Sahib and Nawab Khair Buksh Marri Sahib – especially during the present crisis in Balochistan – is a ‘Bay Ghairat’ (one without any honor).”

The Pakistani military dictatorship of General Pervez Musharraf has systematically used the names of Baloch (those who are loyal to the occupying forces) in their media assault on the Baloch nation. These loyalists appear out of nowhere and start making ridiculous statements against the “Baloch War of Independence”, Baloch freedom fighters, and Baloch nationalist leaders. However, there are also notable “Baloch Loyalists” such as Jam Mohammad Yousaf, Zubaida Jalal and many more who continue to batter the Baloch struggle for freedom.

The ongoing “Baloch War of Independence” is a very important moment in the history of Balochistan. This is an event that has drawn a clear-cut line between those who support the sovereignty of Balochistan as a country, and those who want the Baloch nation to continue to live as slaves of the occupying forces of Iran and Pakistan. In other words, this division is between “Baloch Nationalist” and “Baloch Loyalist”.

A Baloch Nationalist is someone who opposes the illegal occupation of Balochistan by Iran and Pakistan. He wants to liberate the Baloch nation, and end the slavery of the Baloch people by the occupying forces. He desires freedom and equality of the Baloch people, and total autonomy and self-determination of Balochistan. He is a Baloch Freedom Fighter, and he struggles for self-determination through dialogue, and if that fails, he will engage in warfare. But, he will never succumb to intimidation by the occupying forces; he would rather die than join the occupying forces in their oppression of the Baloch people.

A Baloch Loyalist is someone who has sold his soul to the devil. A Loyalist will support the occupation forces to continue colonizing Balochistan, usurp its resources, and prolong its draconian rules to oppress the Baloch people. The Loyalist will do everything in their power to sabotage the freedom struggle by the Baloch nation to liberate Balochistan. For spilling the blood of the Baloch Nationalist, the Baloch Loyalist reaps financial and political rewards from the occupying forces.

There are numerous Baloch parliamentarians who are still serving in the rubber-stamp government concocted by the Pakistani military regime. These Baloch leaders are hopeful that dialogue and negotiations may solve the grievances of the Baloch people. But, the “Baloch War of Independence” and the massacre of the Baloch people by the occupying forces should clarify any misunderstanding in these parliamentarians’ mind – the Baloch are an oppressed nation.

It is time for the Baloch parliamentarians to reassess their failed strategy and make the necessary changes to coupe with the ground realities. The Baloch nation wants to hear from their leaders whether they are Nationalists or Loyalists. As far as Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, Nawab Khair Buksh Marri and Sardar Ataullah Mengal along with some of their family members are concerned, they have already taken a crystal clear position. These brave men have committed to being declared Baloch Nationalists, and they are prepared to face any consequences for their conviction in liberating Balochistan.

Because of persecution under treason charges by the occupation forces, many Baloch leaders are waiting for the opportune time to make such an announcement. Mir Azaad Khan Baloch, general secretary of the newly formed Government of Balochistan (GOB) in Exile said, “As long as these Baloch leaders do not openly defame or allow the occupation government spokesmen to issue derogatory press statements in their presence or from their residences against the Baloch resistance, we will still honor them as Baloch Nationalists. But, if they show any signs of loyalty to the occupying forces, then they will definitely be labeled as Baloch Loyalists (or traitors); and we will treat traitors in the same manner as they are treated all over the world.”

GOB (Exile) announced today that it is time for the entire Baloch community to purge Balochistan by identifying the Baloch Loyalists. GOB (Exile) is compiling a list and would like the Baloch people to email names of known Baloch Loyalists to:
