Government of Balochistan (Exile) protests the laws invoked by Britain to ban Balochistan Liberation Army

PRESS RELEASE:

KALAT, Balochistan – In a major setback to the Baloch freedom struggle, Britain on Monday banned the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), invoking for the first time a new law against glorifying terrorism.

John Reid, the Home Secretary of U.K. issued an order in Parliament to make it a criminal offense for a person to belong to or encourage support for BLA. It will be illegal to arrange meetings in their support or to wear clothes or carry articles in public indicating support for BLA.

“I am determined to act against those who, while not directly involved in committing acts of terrorism, provide support for and make statements that glorify, celebrate and exalt the atrocities of terrorist groups,” Reid said.

“I am also committed to ensuring that those organizations that change their name do not avoid the consequences of proscription,” he said.

Government of Balochistan (GOB) in Exile protested the new law invoked by Britain, and insists that BLA is not a terrorist organization, but a resistance force, which is engaged in guerilla warfare with the Islamic Republics of Iran and Pakistan to liberate Balochistan. Freedom is a basic human right, and BLA is battling the oppressors of the Baloch nation to secure the freedom of the Baloch people.

The following Letter of Protest was sent to the Home Secretary of Britain, John Reid:

The Home Secretary

SUBJECT: Letter of Protest

Dear Sir,

The Government of Balochistan (GOB) in Exile protests the inclusion of Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) in your list of banned terrorist organizations.

GOB (Exile) denounces all forms of terrorism, including state terrorism. As you know that Balochistan was forcibly occupied by Iran and Pakistan, and the Baloch people were oppressed ever since. They have struggled for their basic right of self-determination by fighting the Iranian and Pakistani forces to liberate Balochistan.

The Baloch are one of the oppressed nations of the world like the Kurds. Foreign forces, the Iranians and Pakistanis, occupy the Baloch territories. Balochistan is marginalized in every sense by its colonizers who are unwilling to resolve problems through political dialogue. Hence, like many other oppressed nations, the Baloch have revolted and are now demanding total autonomy. Such rebellion usually turns into an arms conflict between the "Goliath and the Giant".

Strong-arms tactics of the occupying forces usually results into a genocide-like condition for the oppressed people. This is what is currently happening in Iran-occupied and Pakistan-occupied Balochistan. Both the Iranian and Pakistani governments are systematically conducting "ethnic cleansing" to rid the Baloch race from their ancestral land, Balochistan. The Baloch have voiced their concern through political dialogue, but to no avail.

BLA are freedom fighters who are involved in a "Guerilla Military Action" against the Iranian and Pakistani forces. They are fighting the "Baloch War of Independence" by attacking military forces, blowing up supply lines, destroying infrastructure, and damaging anything and everything that will incapacitate the Iranian and Pakistani government and its armed forces, and taking every measure to avoid civilian casualties. BLA is a resistance force, just like the Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur (French Resistance Army) during World War II.

BLA is taking every measure to avoid any collateral damage. If your government may send a fact-finding mission to Iran and Pakistan to find out the activities of BLA, we are sure that they will declare them a non-terrorist organization. But, by banning BLA without investigating the ground realities is a decision made in haste.

The fact is that the Iranian and Pakistani regimes' intelligence agencies commit state terrorism by detonating roadside bombs in public places and putting the blame on BLA. Such tactics have caused confusion around the world about the true nature of BLA’s activities, which is guerilla warfare against the oppressors of Baloch people.

Your decision to ban BLA shows that you condone the blatant human rights violations against the Baloch people being committed by Iran and Pakistan. The Baloch have every right to defend against oppression and demand self-determination. Therefore, please reconsider your decision and remove BLA from your list of terrorist organizations. Your serious consideration will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely yours,

Today, the general secretary of GOB (Exile), Mir Azaad Khan Baloch pleaded with the Baloch Diaspora in U.K., “We want our Baloch brethrens in U.K. to contact their local Members of the Parliament and offer their support to end terrorism, including state terrorism. They should also emphasize that the British government must distinguish between terrorist organizations and resistance forces like the BLA. To ban BLA is like tying the hands of Baloch people so they cannot defend themselves from being victimized and oppressed by the Iranian and Pakistani regimes.”

  • Correted version: This is called true representation of Baloch Nation. Thank you GOB in exile for this timely letter. Whole Baloch Nation supports you and the letter. I request our Baloch community in UK to arrange a meeting with Mr. Reid and talk to him and ask him to re-consider his decision or insist on findings used to label BLA as a terrorist Organization. I'm sure all finding are paki provided fake proof. When US Asst. Sec. of State for south Asia Richard Boucher was asked by a Paki Geo TV Reporter to Ban BLA, Mr. Richard refuse to entertain the reporter's request. >>>> http://www.state.gov/p/sca/rls/rm/2006/64229.htm
and said we don't have proofs that BLA is a terrorist Organization. If USA doesn't have any "proof", What proofs British Govt have and what is the source of that proof?
I don't know what fake evidence did British Govt received from paki that was used toBan BLA in such a haste without finding out the truth. I hope our Baloch brothers in UK talk to the authority or seek legal advice to challenge this in the British courts. Thanks. A Baloch.

  • Dear brother Baloch,

Thank you for your compliments; we are simply doing our duty to serve our beloved Balochistan.

The Baloch community in the U.K. have to contact their local MP’s to initiate any bill in the Parliament to challenge the inclusion of BLA in their list of terrorist organizations. This process is long, but if someone is determined, they can certainly do something to convince Dr. John Reid to revise the list.

Thank you again for your support.
